The annual Contact Improvisation festival in Italy, Zipfest, is a Satellite Event of CI36, and invites you to join for the Celebration of Contact Improvisation and for the Summer Solstice.

The festival opens its ninth edition with a weekend of International Summer Solstice Jam, starting Saturday June 21st through Sunday June 22nd, in a White Night Jam-contact day ... A 25 Hours of Movement Art and Contact ...

The festival will go on until June 29th: sixteen guest artists from various countries will animate the city from early morning to late at night, taking turns in a dense calendar of jams, performances and concerts, intensive workshops, encounters and laboratories centered around the theme of Contact Improvisation, improvisation dance and the performing arts.

Zipfest is a lively kermis with internationally famous guest artists invited to the Umbrian residence from various countries to collaborate in the creative production of events, promoting the identification of a trans-cultural art. The festival is an event of art and culture speaking the language of today, questioning itself on the processes or artistic interaction, creating contacts and occasions for cooperation among the guest artists, who bare their experience, affinities and cultural and generational differences in Orvieto, to create the festival together.

International scene 2008
Nita Little (www.nitalittle. com), American pioneer of Contact Improvisation, an internationally acclaimed artist, invited to Italy for the first time in April in the residenza dinamica of Palazzo Caravajal, for the project Restless Peace, and once more present in June as part of the Zipfest guest artists. Keith Hennessy, a Canadian performer with countless awards, for the first time in Italy, will present an interesting workshop in which improvisation dance, performance and shamanism will be put in relation to each other. Giorgio Convertito, an eclectic Italian dancer who has been living in Helsinki for six years, and is today an artist on the Finnish scene, Jacky Miredin the virtuoso French performer previously invited to Zipfest07 and the young Italian choreographer Sara Simeoni, currently dancing with Carolyn Carlson. The artistic director of the festival, Rossella Fiumi, takes part with her installation titled I'm All Ears, a forum on the theme of listening and communication in contemporary creativity.Jens Biedermann, a Swiss acrobatic dancer and accordion player, Adalisa Menghini, Italian choreographer who has been living in Berlin for years, Alessia Scala a young Neapolitan dancer, Isabelle Uski, Contact improviser from Grenoble, Gionatan Surrenti Italian dancer, improvisor and pedagogue, previously invited to several Zipfest editions, Yanaël Plumet French performer and traveler currently living in Istanbul, the musician and performer Michele Rabbia virtuoso percussionist invited to the preceding editions of the festival and particularly beloved by the Zip public, Marko Timlin Finnish sound artist proposing new modes in the field of electronic sound, composing and improvising on solar panels and Barnaby O'Rorke Tree, a versatile Scotch performer, improviser-cellist, composer and vocalist.

24-28 June Performances, concerts, forum
One of the most eagerly awaited events in Zipfest calendar, the improvisation performances: instant compositions, proposed then and here by the guest artists, in a type of performance called Real Time Composition.

Heart-felt curves
It is a great honor to present and pay homage to Luigi Mario, known also as Engaku Taino, a Zen master who has been living in the hinterland of Orvieto for many years. He is a fascinating figure with proficiencies and preparation of alpine skiing and rock climbing, as well as a Tai Chi Chuan guru, but above all a person to meet and know to practice meditation. Luigi Mario has been invited to the festival for two reasons: the first is to lead, aided by assistants, a free climbing session on the rocks of Ferentillo, a splendid zone in Umbria-Valnerina, on June 23rd. It is a unique occasion for those who practice Contact as well as others, because it gives one a chance to find out what it's like trying one's hand at a height of 30 meters, using one's strength, resistance, balance, gravity, weight, feeling of the void, and any number of other emotions to explore. The second reason is purely contemplative: three meetings of Tai Chi Chuan and meditation.

The American performer Nita Little will be the special guest of our association, first time in Italy as guest artist, for giving the project “Restless Peace”. The intensive workshop with Nita Little is in the calendar of our Residential Projects 2008, and will be from April 25 to May 2, 2008 in the beautiful Etruscan city of Orvieto, in middle Italy.

After the end of the workshop, on May 3rd and 4th, the association will plan also two days with the International Springfest Jam.

The intensive workshop and the Jam will be held both at the headquarters of the cultural Association Caravajal15 residenza dinamica, in the prestigious sixteenth century rooms of the Palazzo Caravajal-Simoncelli, in Orvieto.

Restless Peace
The urge to move, to go where we have never been, is the soul of our practice in this workshop.
Developing a "home base", a place of personal and creative safety is as important as the journey; how wonderful to be free when you have a home! We learn, how like nomads, we may carry our home with us, even as we track paths in and out of unfamiliar territory.
We focus on developing the mental, emotional, and physical skills that enable dancers to travel creatively. Utilizing a full dance vocabulary, we integrate gestured movement improvisation with contact improvisation and build the skills to consciously weave these two forms.

We investigate “states” of mind / “states” of body as a means to develop and direct creative work in our improvisations. Developing the ability to describe and craft subtle levels of action and experience, we boost our physical potential while increasing our readability. Moving in solo, duet and group forms, we gain compositional tools for structural orientation; like torches, they light the way.

This workshop is developed for experienced movers who wish to pass beyond the threshold of old patterns. The restless human drive that takes us out of comfort, urges us to meet the unfamiliar, to move into, through and with the unknown, is a dance artist’s call. Here, we harness that drive and discover how, moving at the speed of our restless calling, we can find peace.

This class culminates in a creative work for performance at the workshop and at Zipfest08.

Things we will do:
Go deep into the physical philosophy behind contact improvisation.
Learn underlying CI principles that manifest as pathways of action.
Build the tools for safe physical and creative relationships
Discover different spatial orientations: vertical/hierarchical and horizontal/diffuse.
Learn about our temporal orientation and develop tools that modulate time.
Develop the skills to be able to move freely between states of mind.
Deepen our agreements to open to life, to the dance.
Honor peace.

Nita Little has been developing, choreographing, performing and teaching improvisational dance for the past thirty-six years, notably Contact Improvisation, which she helped evolve from its inception with Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith and others.
She collaborated in numerous performing companies introducing Contact Improvisation throughout the United States. She is a master teacher with former students all over the world, who are themselves now master dancers and teachers: Gretchen Spiro, Andrew Harwood, Frey Faust, Scott Wells, Julie Oak, Peter Bingham to name just a few. Through CI she discovered her abiding interest in the evolution of consciousness and the mind body relationship. Since 1981 she has been developing an evolving curriculum called The Mind in Motion, which explores the range of experiential states along the mind-body continuum and reveals principles that define Contact Improvisation as well as other movement forms. This work is informed by her investigation of the mind through work such as hypnotherapy and NeuroLinguistic Programming.

As a performing artist her current work is a mix of both formal and improvisational choreography and scores. While anchored in process, it frequently explores character, story, and concept.

Nita received a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in choreography and was on the California Arts Council Touring Program.
The latter award was to her solo dance company, NITA LITTLE DANCE THEATRE, which she began in 1984, continued through 1990, and reinstated as a pickup company in 2000. In 2002 Nita created Playing God, an hour-long dance opera that received funding through the Dance USA /National Endowment for the Arts.

Over the years Nita has been both faculty and guest artist at numerous colleges and universities including New York University, California Institute for the Arts, Texas Christian University, Temple University, Tufts University, Scripps College and UC Santa Barbara.

Nita teaches and performs yearly at national and international dance festivals including ImPulsTanz, Vienna, The Side Step Festival, Helsinki, Kontakt Budapest International Improvisation Festival, the International Contact Festival Freiburg, Germany,the Seattle Festival of Alternative Dance and Improvisation and the West Coast Contact Improvisation Festival, Berkeley California.
She also teaches locally and nationally throughout the year. She lives with her son in Santa Cruz Mountains in California.

As she has pioneered a path in the understanding of the mind/body/spirit relationship, Nita's mission, conscious evolution, has been the backbone of her passion and her practice. Her goal is to see, feel and reveal grace in all its forms and as it exists in the actions of the mind and the body.

With Christmas just around the corner…we’re dancing Contact !

Second encounter with Four Seasons Jams, a project of art and culture that continues to call attention to the city of Orvieto in Italy, with regards to Contact Improvisation, the Performing Art and dance of Improvisation.

The next appointment is the International Winter Solstice Jam on the 21, 22 and 23 of December, to greet the arrival of winter, and to celebrate Christmas time and a week from the end of the year, dancing Contact together.
Second Jam in a series of four, every three months, at every change of season.

The jam will be held at the headquarters of the cultural Association Caravajal15 residenza dinamica, in the prestigious sixteenth century rooms of the Palazzo Caravajal-Simoncelli.

The dance studio in our dynamic residence is welcoming and serene; in addition to dancing together, time and space are dedicated to personal requirements, to being together, to visiting the splendid Etruscan city of Orvieto.

We’ll dance together and we’ll warm ourselves in front of the fire in the fireplace in the frescoed Room of the Four Seasons, during the three days of the jam.

It is open to all, with three days of improvisation dance in the residence, including hospitality, reception and meals.

The fee is 100 euros, which includes also hospitality, reception and meals.

Lodging in the residence
We can host up to 20\24 people, comfortably.
We are organized with mattresses that the participants can use, scattered here and there in the 150 square meters of the studio.
You have to bring your own sleeping bag and a blanket, or sheets\pillow and blanket, as you prefer.
There’s a room in residence equipped for preparing breakfast and meals, in addition to dressing rooms and showers.
One person will cook for us during the three days of the jam.
Lunch will be light (fruit, rice, vegetables and/or cheese, cookies, honey, tea, coffee, etc.).
Evenings a dinner will be offered.

We are happy to announce that Simone Forti will be again the guest artist of our residence, for giving her intensive residential workshop “Logomotion Writing Workshop”.
The intensive workshop with Simone Forti is in the ambit of our international projects 2008, and will be from March 8 to 15 2008 in the beautiful Etruscan city of Orvieto, in mid Italy.

Logomotion Writing Workshop
Sometimes our words don't have access to what we know in our bones.
In this workshop we will be improvising moving and speaking, and we will be writing.
While our writing will stimulate our imagination and support our improvisations, our improvisations will enrich our writing with a kinesthetic timing to phrasing and windows on sudden thoughts and memories.
Our activities will include studio sessions of improvisational moving and speaking, spontaneous writing, walks in town, with partners, for conversations about matters large and small, and private times to write and to craft our writings and to read them to each other.
We will borrow from the writing practice of Natalie Goldberg as found in her books “Writing Down the Bones” and “Wild Mind”, discovering the associations that gather spontaneously around a chosen point of departure.
As our movement work will include many activities in partners and in groups, some of our writing will include more than one voice, focusing on the relationships between the thoughts of different people.
A goal will be to write with wild mind and intention, and with awareness of world.

Jennifer Dunning writes in her 1991 New York Times review: “Simone Forti presented her first dance program in 1960 and has since then had a steadily increasing influence on post-modernist choreographers interested in exploring ‘natural’ or non-formalist movement and dance”.

New, could use tips

I'm in the process of making my first set of pegs, need to find a friend with powertools but soon!

I'll probably stick to 2 1/2 feet for starters but I would love to get some safety tips.

Are there workshops or someone willing to give some one on one lesson?

I'm mostly concerned about learning how to correctly take a fall to avoid injuring myself while I learn.

This year is going to be the best. We have lots in line for you stilters and
groundlings as well!

We will have a parade, stilt games, drinks and will try to beat our record of 52
stilters in one spot.

There will also be DJ's at the Red Nose spinning our favorite stilter tunes
like "Higher Baby","The Skies the Limit" and my personal favorite "Please help me I falling"!

When the parade starts we will be hitting up as many stilt bars as we can and hijacking arts cars with
our good looks and witty remarks! If you have any questions or would like to add your BAR/STILT BAR/ART CAR to the parade

Need a place to live, want a change of pace, looking for a place where you can stilt inside and work out routines. Patrick of Abudant Sugar has two open lofts available for anyone who wants a fun year round burner atmosphere to live in. Below is his email.

Hey All,

I am sending this out to all of you crazy people who have frequented Abundant Sugar. As you may know we have had a change of the guard here and we are in need of finding new roommates. As of the first of the month it will be just Aaron G and I. Aaron is also in love and (with blessings) is spending more and more time with his honey in Central America. All indicators say that I will be directing a film in the coming months and will not be in a position to run everything as we are accustomed.

Considering my options on maintaining Abundant Sugar, I can post again on tribe, fall back to looking for strangers on Craigslist or rethink things completely, maybe sublet to some other group or bail. I hate to let it go so...

If any of you have any leads on people looking to move or have ever dreamed of living outside the lines, or have any creative thoughts, please let me know. Total rent is 4k a month plus utilities and cleaners.
As you know the place is magical. I have included my last posting to tribe below. Please feel free to send it along to your various families and friends, classes, groups. playmates.

Chemistry is Everything!!

Abundant Sugar is losing it's XX chromosomes and we are radically out of balance. We need balance!
KJ and Caylee are moving on to greener pastures, leaving spots open to live at Abundant Sugar.

As many of you know, Abundant Sugar is an incredible artist loft space dedicated to gracefully fostering and nurturing creative and social energies to create a unique space that is safe, grounding and empowering for those that pass through the space.

Communal in nature, it is a household first for those that live there. It needs to provide a safe and stable place for the inhabitants to be able to project the presence that we do. To that end, we function as a family. Communication carries the day, trust is paramount and chemistry is everything. We share a lot, help each other and encourage each other to burn as brightly as we were meant to. We are stronger as individuals because of our commitment to each other.

In many ways, Abundant Sugar was modeled and refined after a Burningman theme camp model, and it works. We open our doors to a larger communal family that embraces what we aspire to do and generates a powerful social structure and creative cross pollination designed to make dreams come true. These people gather, share ideas and join forces to create incredible magic. They also help maintain and manage the place.

To live at Abundant Sugar calls for participation in the dream. Not a passive place, it calls for one to choose life, and it delivers in return. It is the perfect place for someone who wants to propel themselves forward creatively. Through the interaction of the community we support, the individual's potential is exponential. New connections are made, opportunities offered, extraordinary life experiences are manifested. All the resources of Abundant Sugar are available too those that live there. We have a fully equipped tool shop, a sprung dance floor with 22' ceilings and rehearsal mirrors, a video projection theater, pa sound system, large kitchen, tons of parking, tons of storage, private office space, internet, a dozen sofas, acres of fun fur, -oh...and an awesome tree in the living room.

While the rent is not a lot by LA standards, and certainly not for what is available at Abundant Sugar, it is imperative that those who live here are able to support themselves, pay rent and not be an additional drain on the place. The housemates pay the rent and utilities. Money brought into the space by anyone else using or renting the place goes into maintaining and improving the facility, paying a weekly house cleaner, buying toilet paper and compact flourescent light bulbs, etc. Rent is rent, just like anywhere else. No big deal.

If this sounds like you, if you think you would like to live outside the box then we encourage you to get in communication with us. We are open to any conversation, including a couple (there is the possibility of joining rooms into a suite).

newbie looking to make/buy pegs post-BM :: pls help!

After prancing around BM last week on 2.5' pegs for the first time, I'm now looking to make or buy a pair.

Any tips on putting together a pair -- or places to go in L.A. to buy materials?
Or is it better to buy some online?
What do you all figure a pair of 2.5' pegs would cost?

If anyone knows a good resource for these kinds of questions, any help is much appreciated.
I want to get dancing soon...

San Diego Pride Parade--July 29th**Update

Hello all you wonderful performers. Hope this finds you doing well. I just got back from a wonderful weekend at the Elysium festival so I am feeling even more alive and creative. We picked up some more performers for the parade so the vision keeps expanding. Im so excited.

So here are as many of the details I have at this time for the parade. The parade starts at 11am. Our met time is scheduled for 9:30 am. Exact spot will be forward to you when we get it (its near University and Centre st in Hillcrest). Parking near the parade will be tight so you want to get there early. FOR THE LA HOOPERS COMING DOWN, I have arranged for parking for up to 3 cars. You can park at Dancing Heart Spa which is located at 3980 Park Blvd. San Diego, CA 92103. Those that are driving down let me know and I will give you detailed directions on how to find your parking spot. It is only 1 block from the start of the parade.

For those of you who don't know me, I do everything in style. So this is what we have arranged for you. We will be meeting at our parade start spot at 9:30 (we will be there from 8:45 on). We will be providing everyone with a hot breakfast and mimosas for those who want them. We will have a chill and stretch area for you to relax in before the parade. We have someone giving you a bit of chair massage (still working on this).

The actual parade starts at 11am. We are the 6th spot in the parade. Which is awesome because everyones energy is really up. We have a strong sound system that will carry far. The music is basically upbeat dance music (songs that send the message of personal pride). There will also be some tribal beats and some classics such as "We are Family" etc. If anyone wants more details on the music to practice let me know.

We have a good group of volunters to support all the performers. They will be doing crowd control, going around with towels for you to dry off (its going to be hot and your going to sweat), they will be spritzing you with water, and be coming around with bottled water for you. You will have lots of assistance. We will have a couple of coolers with lots water and refreshments coming with us through the parade.

So this is the vision. We are performing supporting a crystal meth recovery site. Its a heavy topic. The message we are sending by being in the parade is we want people to see how much fun they can have and how much fun life is. The energy of all these hoops going at once is going to really pull people in. We also have some poi spinners and stilt walkers. Just think how wonderful this is going to be to people who have not seen this before. Wow.

Everyone is to wear white. Don't want to crush artistic expression but we want to show unity. The hoopers will go first, poi spinners behind them, stilt walkers last.

So I hope this helps everyone. If you have any more questions let me know. Please let me thank everyone for coming together. The energy around this continues to unfold. I really want to especially thank those of you coming down from LA, this will help our communties connect even more.

Shameless plug time!

I know it's summer and that means at the movies everyone is focused on Supermen, Pirates and Snakes on Planes, but I'd like to turn your attention to an important little film that my close friend and fellow burner, Chris Paine made. Actually several burners worked on this film in all aspects of the film from shooting to editing and coordinating. The credits are a long list of people we know and love.

It's called "Who Killed The Electric Car?" and it opened in theaters in New York and LA last week. The film is a designed as a murder mystery with several real-world suspects that together brought the demise of the most efficient car ever built. With gas prices over $3 a gallon, there has never been a better time to explore what happened.

As I said, the filmmaker, Chris Paine is a very good friend of mine and has worked tirelessly to bring this story to the screen. Please join me in supporting him and his tremendous film when it comes to theaters. It is also a great documentary on why we still have petrolium vehicles when we dont need them at all.

It opened in select theaters in NY and LA on June 30 but will expand further if it does well. Much like Al Gore's (also excellent) recent documentary, this is a tremendous document on an important story that has ramifications to our every day lives.

Can You help me make the switch?

Hey LA long-leggedes. I have been walking and dancing on drywall stilts for a while. Unfortunately they are on an island off of the East Coast , with a bent strut, tucked away in an attic of a remote guest house......anyway, unaccessable.
So I'm thinking about peg stilts and am wondering if anybody has either plans for 2x wooden stilts, or if anyone has a pair of the aluminum peg stilts that strap from the back ( like Athena wears) that would fit 6ft tall, size 10 1/2 , that I could try . I know that some people don't like the feel of the brace in back.

Oh and does anyone have a set of juggling torches they don't use. Mine are with the stilts.

Zipfizz is hiring promo people for their on going promotions in the Los Angeles area. It pays $15/hr straight pay (no taxes) and the days are 7 to 8 hour days. I've been working for this company for almost two years off and on. They are really cool with schedules. You can work as often or as little as you want. We are very busy right now. IMMEDIATE HIRING. It is a pretty easy job and lots of fun. Mainly on the weekends but some week days as well.

steel vs wood stilts???

HI folks,
I'm going traveling to Turkey/Egypt/Europe on the Nectar temple tour and I want to get new stilts made for traveling. Does anyone have any info advice on what kind of stilts would be best. I've been on wooden peg stilts for years now (made my Tom Sepe) and was thinkin to try out steel ones for the lighter traveling. What's the argument against steel stilts? Does anyone know a good design? I have a blacksmith in SF who can make them for me. Any good tips or advice?

I returned from Canada to LA and within hours, I had yet another opportunity to contribute my energies towards making a party happen last minute... one of my favorite hobbies! But this time, to make it interesting, we're going to film this party as a pilot tv series about the lives of the performance artists, creative folk, DJs and the dancefloor warriors that make the parties shine. So at the Pisces Passion Party, we're going to attempt to have some kind of performance art with every single live music, acoustic music or DJ set. 3 stages, 16 hours, non stop action. Who wouldn't watch that on TV...if you weren't too busy living it!

I truly believe that what we experience in our moments of Zen at some of these events would have a powerful impact on society, if you think so too please come out and show the world what you're passionate about. Every major performer will get an DVD they can use as a portfolio piece and a chance to get a little more recognition (and hopefully some financial flow!!!). We're going to have a screening party the following weekend and give out copies of the DVD.

Are you a fire spinner, hooper, performance troupe, drummer, band, dj, hawaiian nose hummer, Gregorian chanter? Do you play the Butt Flute? YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO SHARE YOUR MUSIC WHITH EACH OTHER.

There are several ways to perform at the event. The first way is to host your own theme camp. Or, you can contact us, and we'll connect you with theme camps that are hosting performance areas, where you can perform as their guest. There will be a small performance area at center camp for eclectic performers, spoken word, and fire troupes that perform to a cd.

Theme camps with music should have works of art, decoration, and places to hang out. Do not just bring a stack of speakers and call yourself a theme camp. If you are doing a performance area, we want you to bring lights, decoration, and seating. Create your area.

* A few rules on sound: theme camps with music will be asked to give 3 one hour time slots each day to guest performers. This should increase the number of people dancing in your area. Plus, it's fun to meet new people (and maybe meet your next and finest new Lover!), and creates a generous environment for performers traveling from far away.
* A note on volume. If its after 3 am at night, go to half volume.
* Be respectful of your neighbors.

daily hikes in griffith park...

want to come?

I am recovering from shoulder surgery from an injury that happened back in July. The surgery was three weeks ago on Monday. For those of you that know me, you know that means I have been doing nothing physical for far too long now (besides PT), and its driving me crazy! So, today I started a new workout plan that doesn't involve my normal flying through the air and dangling from ropes type of activity.

Daily hikes in Griffith Park. I am not feeling restricted to just GP, but it is so close by, and huge, that I thought I would get started there.

I am posting here to let ya'll know that if you want to go for a hike, chances are I will too. Tribe me, or IM at heliolab@chat.mail2web.com.

Tomorrow, I am searching out the "bat caves." Missed them today, but did a nice four mile loop. I think I have figured out where to go for tomorrow. I will be leaving the house around 1pm.

Once I get the go ahead from my PT, then I plan to keep doing it on stilts... ;)

This New Year's Eve, San Francisco and LA based event promoters, ANON SALON are expanding on the long running success of their legendary SEA OF DREAMS New Year's Eve spectacle by raising the bar with this year’s CIRK-O-SIX, to be held at the historic Los Angeles Theater. This year’s burlesque theme combines the party with ongoing theater performances in the famed downtown theatre.

The Los Angeles Theatre was once considered one of the four or five finest theatres in the world and the event will raise the flag of the new Renaissance of downtown Los Angeles and call upon the Golden Era of LA’s Downtown Theatre District where vaudeville and burlesque used to fill its resplendent theatre houses. Anon Salon will bring the history alive with today’s most cutting edge, avant garde performance and burlesque troupes performing in this breathtaking theater with a surrounding labyrinth of party rooms containing Anon’s live and DJ musical favorites.

The theatre built in 1931 in the French baroque style of Louis XIV, was a virtual Hollywood cathedral. Famous for its huge crystal fountain in the lobby, not an inch of the interior was left undecorated from the elegant stage curtains and ornate balcony to the intricately-carved ceiling of its lobby. When the Los Angeles Theatre was about to go under during the Depression, Charlie Chaplin paid an exorbitant amount of money to keep the posh 1,967-seat theater afloat, so that he could have the grand premiere of his masterpiece "City Lights" there. When downtown LA was abandoned for other new neighborhoods and nightlife, the Los Angeles Theatre closed and had been sitting idle, except for occasional film shoots.

Cirk-O-Six will then merge this experience with its audience base of costumed revelers to create a unique and participatory evening of entertainment.

Additionally, there is a full art gallery space attached to one of the downstairs ballrooms that will house a large art exhibit of cirque and burlesque themed works curated by Mike Russek, co-founder of Transport Art Gallery and founder of the Six Degrees Art Festival.

Lighting and an interactive environment will also be created by Los Angeles event and décor wizards, The Do Labs.

HISTORY OF ANON SALON

ANON SALON, over the course of its 15-year existence, has helped redefine West Coast event production by producing hundreds of unique theme parties, theater festivals, art shows and even street fairs for Burning Man fans in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. The company was born out of San Francisco’s alternative art and performance scene of the 1980’s. From the beginning, they helped shape an ever-growing community of multi-media artists and event producers into a network of non-commercial, unadvertised one-off events and large public gatherings. Unlike conventional concert, club or theatrical events, these one-off gatherings were specialized one-of-a-kind theme party/events. Production laden and technologically cutting edge, they included not only music, but also performance artists, installation, lighting and video artists, theatrics and unique décor, that quickly began to attract an audience that brought their own ideas to the mix. The evolution of their party spectacles has always reflected the changing face of the creative community. As their website asserts, "ANON SALON teases technology, embraces the arts, and flirts with the unknown. … It celebrates all that's eclectic and electric in art, design, and media providing a place to grab new ideas before business as usual turns them into formulas.
Anon founders, JOEGH BULLOCK and MARCIA CROSBY have been central to San Francisco's alternative and underground art scene since the late 1970's. Besides ANON SALON, their endeavors include the GlasHaus parties of the mid-1980's, Icon Byte Bar and Grill (the first Internet bar and cafe in SF), the award-winning Climate Theater, the world famous Solo Mio performance festival. More recently, Joegh has co-created and co-produced San Francisco-based Burning Man Festival parties such as Flambé Lounge and the Decompression Heat the Street Faire.

In the early 1990's, they joined forces with then actor/director MARK PETRAKIS, known as “Spoonman” (from his popular alternative vaudeville revues called “COBRA LOUNGE”). An early web developer, already a part of the burgeoning technology scene, Petrakis was also responsible for Telecircus.com, a 1994 San Francisco arts community website that provided the first web presence for Burning Man, the Residents, Clubfoot Orchestra and many others.

Artist, event producer and social provocateur, MARK BAVA from the Monterey and San Francisco Bay Area entered the mix further bringing together audiences from communities from Humboldt to San Diego. Bava is also one of the founders of the LA Burning Man LaDecom Street Fair, Oracle Milleneum and the Blue Bongo nightclub in the Artist District of Downtown Los Angeles.

LA partner and co-producer, Stephen Samojeden is an east coast transplant who got his start in event productions in Colorado in the early Nineties. Working with friends he helped create Sol Productions, which grew to be one of the largest event production companies in the state. More recently he has helped create dozens of alternative art events in the Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles areas, including the yearly Los Angeles Burning Man Decompression Street Fairs.

Since its debut on NYE 2000, their SEA OF DREAMS event has been known as the must-see sleeper event for the in-the-know “cultural creatives”, attracting over 3,000 attendees each year to the sold out San Francisco events and last year’s LA event.

This New Year’s Eve, the ANON team will once again combine their talents and experience in the raising of Cirk-O-Six.

We will be meeting at 11:00am (for an 11:15am departure) tomorrow morning at the Dolab located:

We will then head down to the demonstration, which is at Olympic and Broadway (downtown). The march to the Federal building starts at 12:00pm, we will definitely need to allow time for parking and stilting up, so please, if you would like to carpool come no later than 11:15 to the dolab. Or just meet up with us at the demonstration by noon.

To all who are tall, Let our camp be the finish line after critical stilts on thursday(meet 4:30 pm @ center camp)We want to extend our Stilt Bar to water your soul. We will also host a Height Couture fashion walk. Let your creative costumes be adored.

We could coordinate critical stilts to hit all the stilt bars and end at our camp with the Height Couture Walk.

We will also be doing a procession to Kasia's fire sculpture AJNA M-F evening
Each night will have a theme color corresponding to the chakra system. Stilters come and join. Maybe you have a costume that corresponds in color to a specific chakra. Drop by the camp for more details.

We are the EnHightened Beings of Leisure. We want to indulge your Higher conscience. We want to take you to Higher Heights and show you a good time there...If you are a stilt walker you have now found your watering hole....so,stride yourself on over to "The High Chair", kick back on the couch and relax with a High Ball. Ladies? Hard to relieve yerself from way up there ain't it? Come, retain your decorum and use our "High Head Rest room". The High Chair will also be the finish line,the pot o'gold, at the end of this years Critical Stilts Parade. Where, with libation in hand the finest in Height Couture will be judged and rewarded. Now, if aerial work is your forte, bring your tissue, your trapeze, your rings and hook up to our "High Hang-Up" and have your way with it.

so sometime in the next two weeks i plan on mass producing a bunch of wooden stilts. these will not be for sale, but for a special project i am working on and also maybe to start teaching some children's workshops.
